The Long Island Center for Mindfulness at LIBM now offers the eight week Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) course developed by Dr. Jon Kabat-Zinn that has been featured in countless media segments and in hundreds of scientific journals.

Physicians refer individuals to the MBSR course because it has been shown to reduce anxiety and depression, improve coping with chronic illness and pain, improve health, and increase a sense of well-being.  

Research shows that physicians, mental health care providers, and other health health care providers who complete the course have an increased sense of well-being, reduced rates of burn-out, and improved communication with patients.

At the free session you will meet the instructor, learn about MBSR, and get a first-hand experience in mindfulness meditation so that you can decide whether the course is right for you. 25 Continuing Education (CEU) credits available for Mental Health Care Providers.

To date, over 30,000 people have completed the eight-week MBSR course developed by Dr. Jon Kabat-Zinn over 30 years ago with over 700 hospitals worldwide offering MBSR to patients as well as health care providers.

Over three decades of published research shows that people who completed the MBSR course reported lasting improvement in both physical and psychological symptoms from conditions such as:

  • high blood pressure
  • auto-immune disorders
  • stomach/GI problems
  • obsessive thinking
