Welcome to The Center for Mindfulness

at Long Island Behavioral Medicine, PC

Utilizing an integrative model to improve health and well-being.

Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) courses and professional training.

Meditation has been hailed as the #1 Health Booster!

Mindfulness training is becoming the norm in business, sports, and healthcare around the world. Mindfulness training reduces stress and absenteeism, increases productivity, improves concentration, develops better leaders, and generates more creative workplaces. It also enhances cognitive thinking skills, improves coping with stressors, and improves health.

The Center for Mindfulness at LIBM now offers the eight week Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) course developed by Dr. Jon Kabat-Zinn that has been featured in countless media segments and in hundreds of scientific journals.

Physicians refer individuals to the MBSR course because it has been shown to reduce anxiety and depression, improve coping with chronic illness and pain, improve health, and increase a sense of well-being.

Research shows that physicians, mental health care providers, and other health health care providers who complete the course have an increased sense of well-being, reduced rates of burn-out, and improved communication with patients.

To date, over 30,000 people have completed the eight-week MBSR course developed by Dr. Jon Kabat-Zinn over 30 years ago with over 700 hospitals worldwide offering MBSR to patients as well as health care providers.

Over three decades of published research shows that people who completed the MBSR course reported lasting improvement in both physical and psychological symptoms from conditions such as:

  • migraine headaches
  • high blood pressure
  • auto-immune disorders
  • stomach/GI problems
  • obsessive thinking
  • anxiety
  • depression
  • hostility

Participants completing the MBSR course also reported:

  • an increased ability to relax
  • improved concentration
  • more effective coping with both short-term and long term stress
  • greater energy and enthusiasm for life
  • improved confidence and self-esteem

Recent research also shows that mindfulness meditation may improve brain function.

On Jan 31, 2014, The MBSR course offered at The Long Island Center for Mindfulness at LIBM was featured on Channel 12 Long Island Naturally.
